Babylon, NY - April 13, 2015 - Suffolk County Legislator Kevin McCaffrey (R-Lindenhurst) recently attended a seminar entitled “ABCs of Elevation,” which was held at the First Presbyterian Church in Babylon.  The informational event was open to the public and was sponsored by Neighbors Supporting Neighbors and presented by PKAD Architects.

The process of elevating one’s home is quite complex from an engineering/architectural perspective, but it can also be quite intimidating and even emotional to someone considering the modification.  Neighbors Supporting Neighbors recognized this situation, so they decided to bring in some experienced design professionals – PKAD – to demystify the overall process.

Despite the complexity, PKAD explained that elevation offers many pros, namely, resilience to future flooding and possible lower flood insurance premiums.  According to FEMA, homeowners could potentially save in excess of $90,000 over a ten year period if they elevate their homes three (3) feet above Base Flood Elevation.

“Although elevation is no small task, we are very fortunate to have the technology available to protect our homes and lower potentially crippling flood insurance premiums,” said McCaffrey.  “The Town of Babylon suffered the brunt of Superstorm Sandy, and as an elected official, I want to ensure that residents have the knowledge that they will need to rebuilt and prepare for the future.  I am deeply grateful for the efforts of Neighbors Supporting Neighbors and PKAD for the information that they imparted tonight.”
