Pedestrian Injured in Hit-and-Run Crash

Update - April 14, 2015 - Suffolk County Police today arrested a Sound Beach man for leaving the scene of a crash that killed a pedestrian in Miller Place last year.
 
Following an investigation by Vehicular Crime Unit detectives, Christopher Campbell was charged with Leaving the Scene of an Incident Without Reporting Involving a Fatality for fleeing a crash that killed Tracy Mangino while she was walking on North Country Road on October 18.
 
Campbell, 35, will be arraigned today at First District Court in Central Islip.
 
Mastic, NY - April 13, 2015 - Suffolk County Police Seventh Squad detectives are investigating a hit-and-run crash that seriously injured a pedestrian in Mastic last night.
 
Justin Collins, 34, of Mastic was standing next to a neighbor’s vehicle talking to the neighbor when he was struck by a dark colored pickup truck traveling westbound on Wood Avenue at approximately 8:30 p.m. The vehicle fled in a westbound direction on Wood Avenue.
 
Collins was transported via Suffolk County Police helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital where he is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
 
The investigation is continuing. Detectives are asking anyone with information about this crash to call the Seventh Squad at 631-852-8752 or call anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
