Officials: Valley Stream Man Arrested for DWI After Hitting Tree, Fleeing Scene with Infant Daughter

Valley Stream, NY - April 10, 2018 - The Nassau County Police Department reports the arrest of a Valley Stream man for Driving While Intoxicated- Leandra’s Law that occurred on Sunday, April 08, 2018 at 2:20 am in Valley Stream.
 
According to police, 911 received a call for a 2001 Honda CRV striking a tree on Clearstream Avenue. A witness stated that the driver of the Honda struck a tree, exited the vehicle, grabbed a car seat with a crying baby and fled the scene on foot eastbound on Clearstream Avenue.
 
Upon police arrival, officers observed the subject at the corner of Clearstream Avenue and Cedar Street and conducted an investigation. The subject was observed to have blood shot, watery eyes, slurred speech and an odor of an alcoholic beverage from his breathe. Defendant Kevin Caceres, 25, was placed under arrest at 3:50 am. The defendant’s 9 month old daughter was transported to a local hospital for precaution and was released to the mother. 
 
Defendant Caceres is being charged with Aggravated Driving Intoxicated (Child 15)-Leandra’s Law, Driving While Intoxicated and Endangering the Welfare of a Child.  He will be arraigned on Sunday, April 08, 2018 at First District Court, 99 Main Street, Hempstead.
 
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
