Man Killed in Bay Shore House Fire

Bay Shore, NY - April 8th, 2016 - Suffolk County Police Homicide Section and Arson Section detectives are investigating a fire that killed a man in Bay Shore this evening.

Third Precinct Police officers responded to a call of a house fire at 17 Grant Ave., Bay Shore, at 10:21 p.m. Occupants of the single story home called 911 due to an active fire within the residence which housed multiple families.

Curley Tutt, 62, who lived in a basement apartment, was killed. Numerous adults and children who also resided in the home were able to escape the fire.

Detectives believe the fire may have originated in the basement and a preliminary investigation has determined the cause of the fire does not appear to be criminal in nature.

The investigation is continuing.

Brentwood Fire Department and Rescue responded as well as a fire marshal from the Town of Islip.
