Who knows that you will stumble upon as a police officer in Suffolk County? It might be a stranded dog or an escaped horse. For police officer Andrew Hooghuis it was a baby owl.

Hooghuis responded to a 911 call about an injured baby owl in Huntington Station a little over a week ago. As reported on the SCPD Facebook page, for the officer from the Second Precinct, “this weekend was certainly a hoot!”

While the owl’s mother watched from above, the officer took the young owl under his wings, the SCPD said in their post. Members of Sweet Briar Nature Center responded to the scene to evaluate the owl.
