Nassau County, NY - April 7th, 2016 - Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano today joined with several senior members of the Autism Speaks organization to celebrate the 8th Annual World Autism Awareness Day (WAAD). The dome of the Theodore Roosevelt Executive & Legislative Building is illuminated blue, in honor of Autism Speaks’ “Light it up Blue” campaign, and in celebration of WAAD.

“I am proud to show support for individuals and families who are affected by Autism,” said County Executive Mangano.

“We join thousands of landmarks, communities, businesses and homes around the world who are ‘lighting up blue’ in support of this initiative.”

According to the Centers for Disease Control, 1 in 68 children are diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder. That’s why Autism Speaks and World Autism Awareness Day are so important.

They increase global knowledge about autism, and spread awareness about the importance of early diagnosis and early intervention.
