Mineola, NY - April 5, 2017 - Nassau County Comptroller George Maragos presented the 5th Annual Comptroller’s High School Business Challenge at the Theodore Roosevelt Executive & Legislative Building yesterday. This year’s competition had 127 students, 20 teams from 9 high schools throughout Nassau County including, Baldwin, H. Frank Carey, Carle Place, Oyster Bay, New Hyde Park, Westbury, East Meadow, Massapequa, and MacArthur High Schools. The students were tasked to conceptualize, develop and bring to market a mobile APP with broad appeal in either the public safety, healthcare or homeland security realm, with the ultimate vision of their prototypes becoming multi-dollar business.

A prestigious panel of judges comprised of local officials, venture capitalists and industry experts determined the winners of cash scholarship prizes. First place prize of $1000, sponsored by Indus American Bank, was awarded to MacArthur High School’s Vital Pill team. Second and third place prizes, $600 and $400, respectively, were sponsored by the Long Island Conservatory. East Meadow High School’s PediaCore team placed second, followed by New Hyde Park High School’s Eminence team rounding out the cash prizes as third place winner

“This year’s group of competitors represented the best, brightest and most entrepreneurial students across Nassau County. I was very impressed with not only the student’s innovative ideas, but with the passion that they displayed in presenting their work,” said Comptroller Maragos.” The real world experience gained, expressed via feedback from students and their advisors, was very gratifying."
