SCPD: Two Lindenhurst Women Arrested for Stealing 75 Year-Old Veteran’s Walker
Lindenhurst, NY - April 5, 2018 - Suffolk County Police on Wednesday, April 4, arrested two women for stealing a 75-year-old veteran’s walker.
A woman stole a walker that was left on the sidewalk in front of Black Forest Bakery, located at 155 North Wellwood Ave., at approximately 9:15 a.m. The walker belonged to a United States Navy veteran who was inside of the bakery at the time of the incident.
Surveillance video from the bakery captured the theft and personnel from the store uploaded the images onto social media. Monica Newcombe and Heather Lauro were identified after a thorough investigation and with the help from concerned citizens. Police arrested Newcombe, 22, of Lindenhurst, at a residence on Bristol Street at approximately 5 p.m. Lauro, 42, of Lindenhurst, turned herself in this evening at the First Precinct, located at 555 Route 109, West Babylon.
The walker was returned to the man.
First Precinct Crime Section officers charged Newcombe and Lauro with Petit Larceny. The women received Desk Appearance Tickets and are scheduled to appear at First District Court in Central Islip at a later date.
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
