Knox School Teacher R. Shaw Bridges Receives National Recognition

St. James, NY - April 5, 2017 - R. Shaw Bridges, a local teacher from The Knox School, has been selected as a National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) Summer Scholar from a national applicant pool to attend one of 23 seminars and institutes supported by the National Endowment for the Humanities. NEH is a federal agency that supports enrichment opportunities at colleges, universities, and cultural institutions so that teachers can study with experts in humanities disciplines during summer break.
 
Mr. Bridges will participate in a three-week seminar this summer at the University of South Carolina -Beaufort, entitled America's Reconstruction: The Untold Story, which focuses post-Civil War reconstruction efforts in America. The $2,700 stipend awarded to Mr. Bridges covers costs related to travel, study under award-winning scholars and historians, and living expenses.  Approximately 512 NEH Summer Scholars who participate in this program will teach nearly 64,000 American students during the following school year. Mr. Bridges teaches History, Humanities, and Ethics classes at The Knox School, and looks forward to introducing newly acquired concepts from the NEH workshops into the School’s History curriculum.
