Written by Long Island News & PR  |  04. April 2018

Amityville, NY - April 4, 2018 - In an effort to ensure that the public is aware of their rights when dealing with situations of sexual harassment/assault, Suffolk County Legislature Presiding Officer DuWayne Gregory recently hosted a public forum on sexual harassment at the Copiague Library.

The March 29 forum brought together members of the New York State Police Campus Sexual Assault Victims Unit and the National Organization for Women (NOW) Mid-Suffolk chapter to address a broad range of topics, including consent, victim’s rights, tips on reporting incidents of assault and harassment in the workplace and on college campuses, and legal options.

“Given the recent climate and the emergence of the #MeToo movement, it is more important now than ever that people are aware of their rights and the tools at their disposal concerning sexual harassment,” said Presiding Officer Gregory. “This panel brought together lawyers, law enforcement personnel, and experts in the field of workplace and campus harassment to present a comprehensive blueprint of tips and advice residents should keep in mind to stay empowered against all types of sexual misconduct.  I would like to thank the representatives from NOW and the New York State Police for participating and helping to coordinate this event.”

To report a sexual assault, dating violence, domestic violence and/or stalking, call the NYS Domestic and Sexual Violence Hotline at 1-800-942-6906. To make a report within a college campus in New York State, call the State Police 24-hour hotline at 1-844-845-7269.
