NCPD: Man Charged With Hit-And-Run, Vehicular Assault, DWAI After Fleeing Scene of Rockville Centre Accident

Rockville Centre, NY – April 4, 2017 - The First Squad reports the details of an arrest for Vehicular Assault that occurred on Monday, April 3, 2017 at 8:15 pm in Rockville Centre.
 
According to detectives, Rockville Centre Police responded to a 911 call for a pedestrian struck at the intersection of Sunrise Highway and Park Avenue. Upon police arrival, the male victim, 28, was found to have suffered serious injuries to his head and body.  
 
A witness provided police with a description of the vehicle involved which fled the scene east on Sunrise Highway.  A vehicle fitting the witness’ description was located a short time later at the intersection of Sunrise Highway and Grand Avenue. An investigation was conducted and it was determined Frank Onolfi, 28, of Lawrence, was operating the vehicle while under the influence of drugs and the defendant was placed under arrest.
 
The victim was transported to an area hospital for treatment.
 
A subsequent search of the defendant’s car revealed eight (8) bags of a substance believed to be heroin. 
 
Onolfi is charged with Assault 2nd degree, Vehicular Assault 2nd degree, Leaving the Scene of an Accident, Criminal Mischief 4th degree, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th degree, Reckless Driving and Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs.  Onolfi will be arraigned today, Tuesday, April 4, 2017 at First District Court, Hempstead.
 
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
