Legislator McCaffrey Commends Suffolk County Police Officers

Written by Long Island News & PR  |  03. April 2015

Hauppauge, NY - April 3, 2015 - Following this year’s State of the County address, Suffolk County Legislator Kevin McCaffrey (R-Lindenhurst) took a moment to personally thank two injured members of the Suffolk County Police Department for their sacrifices and remaining committed to the job post-recovery. Just prior to meeting with McCaffrey, Officer Mark Collins and Detective Nicholas Guerrero were officially recognized during the address and received standing ovations.

Recently promoted to Detective, Guerrero is the survivor of a hit-and-run incident which took place in Huntington back in 2014. Officer Mark Collins very recently survived being shot twice during a traffic stop in Huntington Station. Although these officers sustained critical injuries, they have made amazing recoveries against all odds.

“As the son, brother, and father of police officers, I know the risks associated with being on the job,” said McCaffrey. “I am absolutely taken aback by the miraculous recoveries of Officer Collins and Detective Guerrero, and I am grateful that they have remained committed to keeping us safe through their vocations. The reason we can all sleep soundly at night is because of professionals like these who serve with honor and integrity. I wish them both a full recovery, and much health, safety and happiness in the years to come.”
