SCPD: Man Arrested for Driving on Drugs after Causing Multi-Vehicle Crash that Killed Woman

Shirley, NY - April 2, 2018 - Suffolk County Police have arrested a man for driving while ability impaired by drugs following a motor vehicle crash that killed a woman in Shirley on Saturday, March 31, 2018. 
 
Peter Visconti Jr. was driving a 2004 Ford pickup truck, traveling westbound on the Long Island Expressway near William Floyd Parkway, when it struck a 2011 Honda minivan at approximately 3:30 p.m. The pickup truck crossed over the median and onto the eastbound lanes where it struck a motorcycle and then struck a 2013 Toyota minivan.
 
Seven people in the Toyota minivan were transported to area hospitals. An adult female passenger was pronounced dead at Long Island Medical Center in East Patchogue. Another adult female is in critical condition at Southside Hospital in Bay Shore. The driver and four other passengers suffered non-life-threatening injuries. The male motorcyclist was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital with serious injuries. Visconti Jr. was transported to Long Island Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver and passenger of the 2011 minivan did not receive medical treatment.
 
Police charged Visconti Jr., 37, of Mastic with Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle 3rd Degree and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th Degree.
 
Visconti Jr. has not been scheduled to be arraigned due to his injuries.
 
All vehicles were impounded for safety checks and the investigation is continuing. Major Case detectives are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash to call at 631-852-6555.
 
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
