Ronkonkoma Wallpaper Site - Remedy to Address Contamination Finalized and Available to the Public

Written by Long Island News & PR  |  01. April 2014

Ronkonkoma, NY - April 1, 2014 - The Record of Decision (ROD) for the Ronkonkoma Wallpaper Site (NYSDEC Site #: E152191) (Ronkonkoma, Suffolk County) has been issued by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC). The ROD describes the remedy selected to address contamination associated with the site.

Major elements of the selected remedy include:

1. Excavation and off-site disposal of contaminated soil from the site to meet soil cleanup objectives. Barium, chromium, copper, and lead are the contaminants of concern in the soil.

2. The excavated area will be replaced with clean fill.

3. A site cover will be required to allow for restricted residential use of the site. The cover will consist either of the structures such as buildings, pavement, sidewalks comprising the site development or a soil cover in areas where the upper two feet of exposed surface soil will exceed the applicable soil cleanup objectives.

4. A Site Management Plan will be developed for site maintenance, development, and use of the site.

The ROD provides additional details about the selected remedy. An electronic copy of the ROD is on NYSDEC's Region 1 website (scroll down under Suffolk County, and look for the ROD for the site).
