The Suffolk County Police Department reports that at one person is dead following a tragic fire that took place at a Medford animal rescue early Monday morning.
Firefighters responded to the Happy Cat Sanctuary, located at 12 Dourland Road, at approximately 7:15 a.m.
Happy Cat Sanctuary, according to their website, "is a 501(c)3 non-profit in Long Island, New York. Our mission is to save the lives of cats and ensure they are provided with the quality of life every creature deserves, including access to medical care, proper nutrition, adequate shelter, and the freedom and safety to live without fear of sickness, neglect, or abuse."
After the fire was extinguished, resident Christopher Arsenault, 65, was found deceased in the home.
Additional details may be revealed when the Suffolk County Police hold a press conference, scheduled for Monday afternoon.
