Queens Man, Bronx Woman in Custody After Chase Leaves Two Lynbrook Police Officers Injured
Lynbrook, NY – March 31, 2017 – The Fifth Squad Detectives report the arrests of a Queens man and Bronx woman for Assault that occurred Thursday, March 29, 2017 at 2:40 pm in Lynbrook.
According to detectives, Lynbrook Police responded to a 911 call for a fraudulent check at Citibank, located at 320 Merrick Road. The employee, 26, received a check and driver’s license from Jazzmene Turner, 22, of Bronx and became suspicious of the check’s validity. The teller notified a manager and called police.
Upon police arrival, Turner resisted arrest by flailing her arms and kicking her feet. The second subject, a male black (not yet arrested), fled the scene on foot and attempted to enter the 2004 Honda Accord operated by Mikheal Grandison, 21, of Springfield Gardens. A responding officer attempted to arrest the unknown subject, when Grandison placed the Honda in reverse and struck the officer with the open passenger side door and caused an injury to the officer’s arm and back. A second officer suffered back and neck pain while he avoided being struck by the Honda prior to it colliding with his police cruiser. Both officers were treated at an area hospital.
Grandison fled the scene and proceeded to operate the vehicle in an unsafe manner. Grandison struck private property on Scranton Avenue, caused significant damage and fled the vehicle on foot. Grandison was arrested a short time later.
Grandison is being charged with two (2) counts of Assault 2nd degree, Reckless Endangerment 1st, Criminal Mischief 2nd degree, Criminal Mischief 4th degree, Reckless Driving and Unlawful Fleeing of a Police Officer. Turner is being charged with two(2) counts of Possession of a Forged Instrument 2nd and Resisting Arrest. Both defendants will be arraigned on Thursday, March 30, 2017 at First District Court, Hempstead.
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
