Wheatley Heights Man Arrested for Possession of Crack Cocaine, Marijuana

Oyster Bay, March 31st, 2014 - The Narcotics/Vice Squad reports the arrest of a Wheatley Heights man for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance that occurred on Sunday, March 30, 2014 at 8:45 p.m. in Oyster Bay.

According to detectives, Second Precinct officers conducted a vehicle and traffic stop of the defendant James M. Carter, 30 of 106 N 16th Street while he was operating a 1997 Dodge Dakota northbound on Spring Street. As the officers approached the stopped vehicle Carter placed the vehicle in drive and sped away. The officers recovered the unoccupied vehicle a short distance away on Shore Avenue. Detectives from the Nassau County Narcotics/Vice Squad located Carter on Spring Street and placed him under arrest without incident. They recovered a clear knotted piece of plastic containing marijuana from Carter’s front pants pocket. A clear piece of plastic containing crack cocaine was recovered from inside the vehicle.

Carter is charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 4th degree, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 3rd degree, Possession of Marijuana, and multiple vehicle and traffic violations. He will be arraigned on Monday, March 31, 2014 at First District Court in Hempstead.
