Stony Brook, NY - March 31, 2014 - With “tick season” right around the corner, The Ward Melville Heritage Organization offers its spring dinner series, Navigate Your Healthcare, with a fascinating forum on Lyme Disease on April 10 with the acclaimed Benjamin Luft, MD, the Edmund D. Pellegrino Professor of Medicine at Stony Brook University School of Medicine, who helped in the development of a Lyme Disease vaccine which has shown great promise.

Since the early 1990s, Luft and the late John Dunn, Ph.D., a biologist at Brookhaven National Laboratory, spearheaded the initial development of the original vaccine antigen concept, and together with researchers at Baxter International, helped bioengineer the formulation used in a clinical trial. Through the Stony Brook University School of Medicine and Brookhaven National Laboratory, The Research Foundation of the State of New York licensed intellectual property of the Lyme vaccine technology to Baxter International. Also learn about recent discoveries and new strains of Lyme Disease which can be fatal.

The event begins at 6:30 pm at WMHO’s Educational & Cultural Center at 97P Main Street in the Stony Brook Village Center.  The cost is $25 pp and includes dinner, dessert and coffee provided by Latitude 121, the Center’s newest restaurant.   Space is limited and reservations are required.  Call 631-689-5888 or visit www.wmho.org.
