Cops: Brooklyn Man Arrested After Carjacking Valley Stream Taxi Driver at Gunpoint

Valley Stream, NY – March 30, 2017 – Fifth Squad detectives report the arrest of a Brooklyn man for a robbery that occurred in Valley Stream on Wednesday, 03/29/17 at 4:16 P.M.
 
According to detectives, a male victim, operating a 2016 Ford Omnibus Van, was dropping off passengers at the Green Acres Mall located in Valley Stream, when one of the passengers, defendant Jeremy Singleton, 30, remained behind, and claimed he wanted to return to Queens.  
 
As the victim was turning the vehicle around, the defendant moved behind the victim, put a gun to his head and demanded money. The victim complied, pulled the van over and exited the vehicle. The defendant got into the driver’s seat and drove off in the victim’s vehicle. The victim flagged down a passerby, asked him to follow his van and called police. The passerby and victim followed the defendant to 650 West Sunrise Highway, where the defendant parked the van and fled on foot.
 
No injuries were reported.
 
Fifth Precinct police officers, located the defendant in the area, and after a foot pursuit, were able to apprehend him and place him under arrest. The handgun and proceeds from the robbery were recovered on the defendant.
 
Singleton is being charged with Robbery 1st Degree, Criminal Use Firearm 1st Degree, Criminal Possession of Weapon 2nd Degree and Criminal Possession of Weapon 3rd Degree.  He will be arraigned on Thursday, 03/30/17 in First District Court, Hempstead.
 
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
