Science Fiction Fans Celebrate LI-CON in Rockville Centre

The very first LI-CON - a two-day convention celebrating everything that has to do with science, science fiction, fantasy and anime - is being held this weekend, March 29 and 30, in Rockville Centre.

LI-CON features panel discussions of many prominent writers, artists, musicians and more. Guests at the event include Jody Lynn Nye, a science fiction writer who has writer and co-written over 40 novels and over 100 short stories.

William Fawcett will also be attending the event. Fawcett is a college professor, science fiction novelist and game designer. Roy Mauritsen, an artist and fantasy writer from Long Island, will also be at the event.

Looking for something a little more active than panel discussions? LI-CON also features several gaming events, including Cards Against Humanity, two sessions of Legends of the Dragon Keepers, an all-expansions Settlers of Catan game, and even a Texas Hold ‘em tournament.

Game designer and publisher Oscar Rios will also be attending the event. Rios will be discussing how to write RPG scenarios, and will also be running sessions of the game Call of Cthulhu.

LI-Con also features movie screenings, including a screening of “Oh, Inverted World” and "Found in Time" followed by a discussions of the films.

Sonic Whammy Enterprises, an game show entertainment company, is also attending the event. They will be featuring their signature game shows including Press Your Luck and Card Sharks.

LI-CON is being held at the Best Western Mill River Manor in Rockville Centre. The convention is run completely by volunteers. Icon Science Fiction, Inc. is a not-for-profit company that runs the convention. Sunday tickets for LI-CON are still available at the door.
