WLIR’s Denis McNamara & My Friend Dahmer’s Marc Meyers on Tom Needham’s The Sounds of Film

Stony Brook, NY - March 28, 2018 - Radio legend, Denis McNamara, will be discussing his new Showtime film, ‘New Wave: Dare to Be Different,’ on Tom Needham’s ‘The Sounds of Film’ on Thursday at 6 P.M.  The program will also feature an exclusive interview with the writer/director of ‘My Friend Dahmer.’
 
Showtime’s ‘New Wave: Dare to Be Different,’ directed by Ellen Goldfarb, tells the story of WLIR, the radio station responsible for introducing new wave music to America. The film features interviews with Billy Idol, Joan Jett, Deborah Harry, Thomas Dolby and Howard Jones. Executive Producer, Denis McNamara, will be speaking about his role as Program Director of this unique radio station that created a community of listeners centered around punk and new wave music. In the film, he effectively makes the case for recognizing Long Island’s WLIR as an important U.S. cultural institution.

‘My Friend Dahmer’, which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival, is an American film which tells the story of serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer’s troubling senior high school year.  The film, directed by Marc Meyers, is based on the graphic novel of the same name by John “Derf” Backderf. The movie stars Ross Lynch, Alex Wolff, Dallas Roberts and Anne Heche.  ‘My Friend Dahmer’ is now available on FilmRise Blu-ray and DVD.
