Shirley, NY - March 28, 2014 - Students at John S. Hobart Elementary School in the William Floyd School District recently welcomed author and scriptwriter Michael Anthony Steele for a visit to learn about his career as an author and the many options that are available for a writer. Steele has written or co-written more than 100 books including the novelization for the motion picture Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian and more than 20 scripts for children’s television shows such as Barney and Wishbone.
“The purpose of Mr. Steele’s visit was to help get students enthusiastic about writing,” said James Westcott, Principal, John S. Hobart Elementary School. “He put on an engaging presentation and the students were amazed to learn that there are so many different and exciting paths that a writer can take.”
During the presentation, Mr. Steele showed students the various covers of some of the books that he was commissioned to write including stories about famous characters such as Batman, Garfield, Krypto the Superdog, Penguins of Madagascar, Lego books and more. He also showed clips of the Barney and Wishbone episodes that he worked on. Throughout the presentation, Mr. Steele encouraged the students to listen to the positive thoughts in their heads and repeat the mantra, “I can do that!” Look below for a brief video from the presentation.
