NCPD: Roosevelt Man Arrested After Allegedly Lighting Several Garbage Fires in Merrick

Merrick, NY - March 27, 2019 - Arson/Bomb Squad detectives report the arrest of a Roosevelt man for multiple incidents of Arson that occurred on Sunday, March 24th, 2019 at 11:45 P.M. in Merrick.
 
According to detectives, Police responded for multiple calls for garbage fires on several residential streets in close proximity to each other in the Meadowbrook Road, Noel Court and Ott Lane area. Responding officers stopped the defendant, Curtis Stevens, 30, based on a matching description from witnesses who observed his actions. After a thorough investigation, which included viewing surveillance video, the defendant, Curtis Stevens, was placed under arrest.
 
Stevens is charged with Arson 4th degree, six (6) counts of Arson 5th degree and Consumption of an Alcoholic Beverage in Public. He was arraigned on Monday, March 25, 2019 in First District Court, Hempstead.
 
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
