Middle Island Woman Arrested for DWI under Leandra’s Law, Cops Say

East Patchogue, NY - March 26, 2018 - Suffolk County Police arrested a woman for driving while intoxicated with her two seven-year-old children in the vehicle in East Patchogue after a 911 caller reported an intoxicated driver.
 
Pamela Murphy, 41, of Middle Island, was driving a 2003 Hyundai Santa Fe in the parking lot of the USA Gas when a Fifth Precinct police officer stopped her vehicle and placed her under arrest at 12:23 a.m. on Saturday, March 24, 2018. 
 
Murphy was charged with Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated with a Child Passenger 15 Years or Younger (Leandra’s Law), Driving While Intoxicated, and two counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child.
 
The children were released into the custody of their grandmother.
 
Murphy was arraigned in First District Court in Central Islip on Saturday, March 24.
 
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
