Police: Man Charged in Lindenhurst Hit-and-Run Crash that Left One Dead

Lindenhurst, NY - March 26, 2019 - Suffolk County Police Homicide Squad detectives have announced that Shatik Canady, 41, of West Babylon has been identified as the driver who fled the scene of a single-car crash that killed a man on N. Wellwood Ave. in Lindenhurst on the morning of March 23.
 
Kawon Williams was involved in a fight in the rear parking lot of BrewHaus Pub, located at 111 N. Wellwood Ave. and following the fight, he was struck by a vehicle driven by Shatik Canady that fled at 4:52 a.m.
 
Williams, 28, of Wyandanch, was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip where he was pronounced dead.
 
Canady has been charged with Manslaughter 1st Degree after detectives say he intentionally ran over the victim, Kawon Williams, following a fight. He was arraigned Sunday morning at the First District Court in Central Islip.
 
Detectives are asking anyone with information on the crash to call anonymously to the Homicide Squad at 631-852-6392 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
 
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
