Hauppauge, NY - March 21, 2018 - At the General Legislature Meeting on Tuesday, March 20th, Suffolk County Legislator Sarah Anker honored Claudia Capie Friszell as one of the 2018 Suffolk County Women of Distinction.

The Legislature hosted a Women of Distinction Luncheon to honor all 18 nominees from throughout Suffolk County. Claudia is a resident of the 6th legislative district and was nominated to receive the award based on her efforts to end drug addiction on Long Island and to educate the public about addiction.

Claudia is currently a parent advocate for the Long Island Recovery Association, which focuses on effective advocacy with local, state, and federal law makers.  She also volunteers with Hope House Ministries, the Thrive LI Recovery Community Center, and works with multiple support groups such as Rise Up and Families in Support of Treatment.

“It is my distinct honor to nominate Claudia Capie Friszell for the 2018 Suffolk County Woman of Distinction award in recognition of her tireless advocacy, her unfaltering resolve, and her incredible commitment to ending drug addiction on Long Island,” said Legislator Anker. “Time and time again, Claudia has been a strong advocate for many organizations, including the Daytop Family Association - which provides support to families suffering from drug addiction and provides community outreach to educate students, parents, and teachers - and the Families in Support of Treatment organization - which supports families who have either lost a loved one due to addiction or have a loved one who struggles with addiction. As a result of her determination, Claudia has inspired and educated countless other volunteers to help support those affected by the drug epidemic on Long Island.  Claudia is the quintessential example of an individual who is truly dedicated to their community, and is greatly deserving of this honor.”
