Police Seeking Man Who Phone-Scammed 84 Year-Old Woman Out of $2,000

East Farmingdale, NY - March 20, 2018 - Suffolk County Crime Stoppers and Suffolk County Police First Squad detectives are seeking the public’s help to identify and locate the man who scammed an elderly woman into wiring him money.
 
An 84-year-old woman from Punta Gorda, Florida received a phone call on January 22 from a male reporting to be her grandson and in need of money to get out of jail for a driving under the influence charge. The woman sent $2,000 via Western Union and the money was picked up by a man at Walmart, located at 985 Route 110 in East Farmingdale.
 
Suffolk County Crime Stoppers offers a cash reward of up to $5,000 for information that leads to an arrest.
