Call for Volunteers at Long Island Crisis Center

Written by Long Island News & PR  |  19. March 2016

Bellmore, NY - March 18, 2016 - Long Island Crisis Center, the 24 hours-a-day, 7 days-a-week suicide prevention and crisis intervention hotline, is currently recruiting volunteers to participate in its upcoming Counselor Assistant Training Program.

“It’s been 20 years [since I volunteered for you] but I just wanted to let you know that the training you gave me many, many moons ago saved my son’s life today.  And for that, I am eternally grateful.  Keep saving lives.  Love, T.”

“We were so happy to receive this message from a past volunteer.  I firmly believe that our training not only prepares individuals for the work they do at our agency, but then further benefits the community when they apply those skills in their personal and professional lives,” says Linda Leonard, Executive Director.

The free, comprehensive orientation training program takes place over 3 three-hour sessions at the Crisis Center’s office in Bellmore.  April’s training will be held on 3 successive Monday evenings from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on April 11th, 18th and 25th.

May’s training will be held on 3 successive Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on May 7th, 14th and 21st.

Completion of the Counselor Assistant training is a prerequisite for the Crisis Center’s Counselor Training, which begins in September.
