Deer Park, NY - March 19, 2014 - County Executive Steve Bellone and Commissioner of Health Services James Tomarken, MD, invite mature residents who are at risk of falling, have a fear of falling or who have fallen one or more times recently to attend a two-hour workshop entitled “Staying Independent for Life.” The program encourages adults to adopt behaviors that reduce their risk of falling and improve their quality of life. The class focuses on improving balance and strength, assessing home and community safety, obtaining annual vision exams, choosing safe footwear and reviewing medications.

The classes are led by a health professional from the Suffolk County Department of Health Services and nursing students from St. Joseph’s College.
