Three Hospitalized After Drunk Driver Rear-Ends Vehicle and Flees Scene, NCPD Says

UPDATE - March 15, 2018 - The rear passenger, 21, suffered serious injuries and was pronounced deceased at 7:23 p.m. by a Nassau University Medical Center physician.

Baldwin, NY - March 15, 2018 - The Homicide Squad is investigating a serious motor vehicle accident involving two autos which occurred on Tuesday, March 13, 2018 at 10:14 P.M. in Baldwin.
 
According to detectives, a Nissan sedan with three occupants was stopped at a red traffic signal on Grand Avenue at Milburn Ave. The vehicle was then struck in the rear by a 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer driven by subject Roy Gomez, 39, West Hempstead. The subject, Gomez, then fled the scene in his auto only to park a few blocks away and flee on foot. 
 
At approximately 3:30A.M., subsequent to a police investigation, defendant Gomez was located sleeping in a boat on Woodcleft Avenue, Freeport and arrested without further incident. All three occupants from the Nissan were transported to area hospitals. A 65 year old male passenger sustained serious injuries, the female driver and a backseat male passenger suffered non-life threatening injuries.
 
Defendant Gomez is charged with Assault 2nd, Vehicular Assault 2nd, DWI, Leaving the Scene of an Accident, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation 3rd. He will be arraigned on March 14, 2018 at First District Court, 99 Main Street, Hempstead.
 
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
