Nassau Police Officer Shoots and Kills Baseball Bat-Wielding Attacker, Officials Report

Manhasset, NY - March 15, 2018 - The Homicide Squad is investigating a Police Involved Shooting that occurred on Monday, March 12, 2018 at 10:32 am in Manhasset.
 
According to detectives, while on routine patrol a Nassau County Police Officer took police action at a road rage incident that occurred at the intersection of Maple Street and East Shore Road.  During this incident the Officer attempted to place a subject under arrest who had just assaulted a motorist with an aluminum baseball bat.  
 
The subject then attacked the Police Officer with the same bat. The Officer in self-defense shot the male subject at the scene. The subject was transported to North Shore University Hospital-Northwell Health, Manhasset and was pronounced deceased by emergency room staff. He has been identified as Michael Delloyd Ward, 46, from Washington, Maryland.
 
This investigation is ongoing.
 
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
