Patchogue, NY - March 15, 2017 - The Look Up For Adam Foundation held benefit “Look Up & Rock On” concert on Sunday, March 12, 2017 at 89 North for hundreds of Long Island supporters. The fundraising event featured live music, speakers on addiction, recovery resources, inspirational beads created by Beading Heart, and auction. Congressman Lee Zeldin (R, NY-1) presented a Congressional Record to Linda Nuszen in recognition of the Look Up For Adam Foundation mission. Proceeds benefited Family Service League (FSL), a Long Island non-profit human service agency, which raises awareness of the growing epidemic of addiction and in support of services needed for the families affected by this devastating disease.
FSL has over 90 years of experience in supporting families through life’s greatest challenges. Unfortunately, substance abuse is on the rise in our communities and across the nation. This is a disease that knows no age, race, gender, or socioeconomic status. Addiction deaths have tripled in Suffolk County since 2010.
In response to this evolving issue, FSL’s program, “ADAM” (Addiction Direction and Management), is specifically designed for the unique needs of families affected by addiction. The program supports families through the emotionally challenging journey of loving a person who is addicted. The approach to substance abuse intervention includes an in-home crisis response model which provides counseling, support services, and linkage to treatment options. FSL’s counseling team meets with families in their home to provide support during emotionally charged or volatile situations. An FSL social worker facilitates group meetings for those who have lost children to drug addiction and suicide. When possible the FSL team will intervene during the brief window of opportunity when a substance abusing person is receptive to help, so that the bridge to treatment is immediately available.
While there is no cure for substance dependency, there are a variety of treatment regimens that can help channel the addicted person toward a path of strength, resilience, and recovery.

Adam’s life was cut short by substance abuse and mental illness. In his memory, it is his family’s hope that these counseling services will provide guidance and encouragement to those affected by a loved one’s drug and alcohol abuse.
