Update - March 16, 2017 - A Bay Shore man convicted last month of course of sexual conduct against a child in the first degree and endangering the welfare of a child was sentenced today to the maximum 25 year sentence in state prison and 20 years of post-release supervision, Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota said.

Robert Kattau, who turns 44 this Sunday, began sexually abusing the victim when she was 8 years old in the summer of 2012.  The abuse continued for four years culminating in Kattau’s arrest on March 9 of last year.

The jury deliberated 40 minutes before finding him guilty on February 10 after a seven-day trial.

District Attorney Spota said Kattau “is a sexual predator who has shown no remorse for his crimes against this young victim, a girl who exhibited tremendous courage in coming forward to see him tried, convicted and now sentenced to the maximum prison term the law allows.”
