Mineola, NY - March 14, 2018 - Legislator Debra Mulé honors Karyn Reid, a member of the Baldwin School Board, at the Nassau County Legislature’s 20th Annual Women’s History Trailblazer Award Ceremony. Mrs. Reid grew up and lived in Chicago before relocating to Baldwin in 2000. She was an educator for over 15 years as well as being a PTA parent. Karyn joined the Baldwin PTA and immediately started advocating for the students within the district.

“Today we recognize and celebrate you for your dedication and commitment to students in the Baldwin School District. Your service as a former teacher and advocate for better quality education is admirable. I'm delighted to recognize you as a trailblazer for women's history month.” said legislator Mulé.

In 2014, Karyn was elected to the Baldwin School Board and served as the President during her first two years on the board. In 2017, she was re-elected to the school board and continues to be a voice for the children. For the past five years, Karyn has traveled to Albany with a contingency of parents, students and staff to lobby legislators for resources for the Baldwin UFSD.

Women’s History Month is a celebration of women’s contributions to their communities, culture, and society. All nineteen legislators had the opportunity to honor and recognize “ordinary women who do extraordinary things.” Each honoree was presented with a citation from their legislator and flowers.
