"Barbershop Anytime” Becomes Very Specific as LI Harmonizers Chorus Sets Annual Show for April 25th & 26th

Locust Valley, NY - March 16th, 2015 - This may mark the sixty-fifth year of this Nassau-based organization, but retirement is hardly on the minds of the Long Island Harmonizers chorus and its skilled barbershop quartets who will celebrate the enduring qualities of four-part harmony offered in those years with “Barbershop Anytime,” April 25 and 26 at The Dolan Center Auditorium at Friends Academy, Locust Valley, NY.

The Saturday performance at the school’s comfortable and acoustically superb auditorium (entrance at 109 Piping Rock Road) begins at 8:07 pm, and the Sunday afternoon show is to start at 3:07 pm. Old-time barbershop favorites will combine with arrangements of more contemporary music in a look back at the timeframe, and “Just 4,” a much-acclaimed foursome with Sweet Adelines International, the female counterpart to the Barbershop Harmony Society, will be the show’s special guest quartet.

As in previous years, a portion of the Annual Show proceeds will be redirected to worthy Long Island charities.

All tickets to the 2015 shows available at the door will be priced at $15 for regular admission. Cost for seniors and students if payment is received in advance is $13. To order tickets, please visit the Chapter’s website, and for more information, please call 631-223-2911.

"It is hardly surprising why our art form continues as such a revered genre in the musical world,” notes Wayne Lazar, 2015 Show Chairman. “It is a ‘game changer’ like no other that, once sampled, firmly latches onto the lives of participants and listeners alike, refusing yield its grasp. Our show will demonstrate that undeniable effect.”

The nonprofit Long Island Harmonizers chorus under the direction of Maurice Debar, rehearses Tuesday evenings at Winthrop Hall, Church of the Advent, 555 Advent Street, in Westbury from 7:30 until 10 pm. Those interested in joining the local Nassau Mid-Island Chapter are welcome to come and listen and, if they wish, apply for membership with a simple audition.
