Stony Brook, NY - March 12, 2018 - Arthur Miller’s daughter, Rebecca Miller, will be joining Tom Needham on ‘The Sounds of Film’ in order to discuss her HBO documentary, ‘Arthur Miller: Writer.’ The film is an intimate portrait of one of our nation’s greatest playwrights told from the unique perspective of his own daughter. The documentary brings to light a wealth of personal archival footage never seen before.

‘Arthur Miller: Writer’ is a breathtaking documentary which tells the complex story of Arthur Miller through a series of home movies and in-depth interviews shot over twenty years by his daughter, acclaimed filmmaker Rebecca Miller. The film provides essential insights into his artistic process and turbulent family life. The film bravely covers Miller’s time with his three wives, including Marilyn Monroe.  The documentary also provides remarkable footage of Miller discussing his classic plays like ‘Death of A Salesman,’ ‘The Crucible,’ and ‘All My Sons.’ In addiction, it shows a frustrated Miller when his later plays did not receive the same critical praise as his earlier works.  Some of the best parts of the film, though, are when one gets to see the Pulitzer Prize winning writer’s reactions to the House of Un-American Activities Committee’s antics.  ‘Arthur Miller: Writer’ provides invaluable insight into one of America’s true geniuses, Arthur Miller.

Rebecca Miller is a critically acclaimed director and author.  Her movie ‘Angela’ won the Sundance Film Festival’s Trophy Award. Her film ‘Personal Velocity’ starring Parker Posey won the Sundance Grand Jury Prize.  She also directed the films ‘The Ballad of Jack and Rose’ with Daniel Day Lewis, ‘The Private Lives of Pippa Lee’ with Robin Wright and ‘Maggie’s Plan’ with Greta Gerwig.  In addition, she is the author of the novels ‘The Private Lives of Pippa Lee,’ and ‘Jacob’s Folly.’ Rebecca is married to Daniel Day Lewis, who she met on set during the film production of Arthur Miller’s ‘The Crucible.’
