Mastic Beach, NY - March 12th, 2014 - The William Floyd High School Student Government, the William Floyd NJROTC and the Moriches Elementary Student Council recently welcomed nearly 50 area senior citizens to the annual Senior Citizen Dance and luncheon held on Sunday, March 2nd, in the William Floyd High School gymnasium.

Local seniors from various organizations including the Bay Area Nutrition Center, Belle of the Ball, Red Hatters, St. George Manor Seniors, Silver Sneakers and South Haven Seniors attended and were treated to a relaxing afternoon of lunch and dessert served by members of the William Floyd High School Student Government. Members of the William Floyd NJROTC kicked off the event with the presentation of colors and the Moriches Elementary School Student Council assisted by providing baked goods for dessert, special greeting cards and along with the high school students, took turns dancing with the seniors.

“It was very moving to see the great respect that our William Floyd students have as they interacted with the seniors from the local community,” said Julie Fortier, co-advisor, William Floyd High School Student Government. “Not only did they assist in helping them get their food and drink, the students (both elementary and high school) took turns dancing with the seniors and appeared to be having as much fun as they were!”

Moriches Elementary School Student Council advisor Kellie Megna agreed, “This was such a great opportunity for the younger students to collaborate with their high school counterparts on a community event that put smiles on many faces. The students told me it was the most fun they had ever had at a school dance! I was so impressed with how they conducted themselves and know that, in the past few months, they really learned the meaning of giving back to their community.”
