Washington, DC - March 7, 2017 - It was announced in the Congressional Record that the Speaker of the House of Representatives Paul Ryan, at the recommendation of the Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi, has officially appointed Congressman Tom Suozzi (D – Queens, Long Island) to the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy’s Board of Visitors. The Congressional Record announcement can be viewed here.

“The Merchant Marine Academy is one of five U.S. Service Academies and plays an important role in our nation’s military infrastructure. As many are aware, the Academy has been dealing with reports of sexual harassment and sexual assault among students, which must be addressed immediately. I will also work closely with other members of the Board to find ways to improve on the already sterling academic reputation of the Academy. This is truly an honor,” said Suozzi.

Congressman Suozzi is a member of the House Armed Services Committee and the House Committee on Foreign Relations. He is Vice-Chair of the Problem Solvers Caucus, which is made up of 20 Republicans and 20 Democrats committed to working together in order to get things done. He is also Co-Chair of the Quiet Skies Caucus, which is committed to reducing plane and helicopter noise.
