Riverhead, NY - March 8, 2018 - On Tuesday, March 6th, the Suffolk County Legislature approved a resolution to rename the Suffolk County 911 Call Center in honor of the late Anthony Bocchimuzzo. The resolution was sponsored by Suffolk County Legislator Sarah Anker to honor the Coram resident, who suddenly passed away from a heart attack at the age of 49 in July 2017.
For 26 years, Bocchimuzzo was a Suffolk County Police Department Civilian Supervisor of 911 dispatchers. While working with the police department, he was instrumental in compiling data for the ShotSpotter program, which uses acoustic equipment in high-crime areas to pinpoint gunfire and alert patrol officers. In addition, he conducted trainings for new employees and acted as a communications liaison between the state and federal governments. Bocchimuzzo was also a volunteer firefighter with the Coram Fire Department for 31 years, where he rose to the rank of lieutenant.
“Anthony Bocchimuzzo was an unforgettable member of the Longwood community and was committed to serving the people of Suffolk County,” said Legislator Sarah Anker.  “Although he is no longer with us, the renaming of the 911 call center will ensure that Anthony is always remembered and honored for his exceptional work with the Suffolk County Police Department.”
