Owners Mike and Steve may have found the perfect spot for a locally-owned burger joint.

Boxcar Burgers, an old fashioned burger joint, recently opened at the Ronkonkoma LIRR Station and with built-in foot traffic from the constant flow of LIRR commuters and the new Ronkonkoma Hub apartment complex just opened up down the road, these guys might be onto something: quick-serve burgers, hot dogs, house-cut friends, tater tots, and other comfort foods in a corner spot on Rail Road Avenue.

The Boxcar Burgers Instagram page is full of mouth-watering burgers, as well as a contest to see who is going to eat the most heart-stopping pile of patties. The record as of the writing of this post is eight!

The owners describe themselves as “two working class guys” who’ve been in the restaurant business most of their lives.

“We have worked every aspect of the restaurant operation from washing dishes to executive managers,” they wrote on their website. “We both had a vision to one day work together on our own project. This is where Boxcar Burgers was born.”

Carisa D., from Shirley, said Boxcar is her new favorite burger spot on Yelp.

“Amazing hand cut fries, juicy super fresh burgers,” she said. “Located right outside Ronkonkoma train station. Definitely grab a burger for your next train ride.

Matthew F., from Middle Island, said the burgers were excellent and gave the restaurant five stars.

“Love the fresh cut fries. Staff was great. It's quick and cheap. Definitely recommend,” he wrote.

Location: 90 Railroad Avenue, Ronkonkoma, (631) 615-2717.
