Arrest Made in Connection with Murder of Woman Found Dead Behind South Hempstead Dumpster

Crime Stoppers and the Nassau County Police Department’s Homicide Squad have announced that an arrest has been made in connection with a homicide that occurred in South Hempstead, New York.
 
On Tuesday, February 14, 2023, at approximately 7:40 A.M., the victim - Rebecca Carlson, 39, of Hempstead - was found lying deceased on the ground next to a dumpster in the rear of Advanced Auto Parts located at 1140 Grand Avenue in South Hempstead.
 
Homicide detectives report upon further examination by the Nassau County Medical Examiners Office it was determined that the death is a homicide.
 
Andrew D. Avila, 25, of 736 Lenore Lane, Elmont, has been arrested for the above incident.  Avila is charged with Murder 2nd Degree. He will be arraigned on Friday, March 3, 2023 at First District Court, Hempstead.
