Yaphank, NY - March 3, 2017 - Suffolk County Police Commissioner Timothy D. Sini will hold a press conference today at Police Headquarters, located at 30 Yaphank Ave., Yaphank, at 1:30 p.m. to commend two officers, one who was off-duty, who revived a man following a motor vehicle crash in Commack on March 1.

A Kings Park man was traveling northbound on the Sagtikos Parkway, between the Long Island Expressway and Northern State Parkway, when he struck the center divider after he apparently suffered a medical emergency. Off-duty Suffolk County Police Officer James Brucculeri observed the crash and stopped to check on the driver who was unresponsive and not breathing.

Officer Brucculeri removed the man from the vehicle and began CPR.  A Good Samaritan, who is an EMT, pulled over to assist Officer Brucculeri. Officer Brucculeri administered multiple shocks from an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED).  Suffolk County Police Fourth Precinct Officer Thomas LaFemina, a member of the department’s Medical Crisis Action Team (MedCAT), responded, and started advanced life support in conjunction with Commack Fire Department first responders.  The man’s pulse was restored and he was transported to Southside Hospital.
