NYC’s Underground Wi-Fi Provider Launches Subway Selfie Photo Contest

Written by Long Island News & PR  |  02. March 2015

New York, NY - March 2, 2015 - We’re all guilty of taking selfies. Whether you’re at a party, a ballgame or on vacation, you and your friends are either cramming in for a group shot or flying solo. Get out your smartphones and flip that camera around because now’s your chance to take a creative selfie in New York City’s underground subway stations and possibly win a prize for it.

Transit Wireless has launched a six-week “Subway Selfie” photo contest to raise awareness for Wi-Fi connectivity in the 77 Manhattan and Queens underground stations that are currently online.

The contest serves to remind NYC subway riders that they now have free Transit Wireless Wi-Fi connectivity underground while adding an element of entertainment to everyday commutes. To enter, participants must take a selfie in one of the Wi-Fi enabled NYC subway stations, clearly showing the station name or a Transit Wireless Wi-Fi sign in the photo and post their photo on Twitter or Instagram using the hashtag #SubwaySelfie. Alternatively, they can upload it directly to the Transit Wireless WiFi website. Individuals may vote on their favorite selfies through “likes,” via Facebook.com/transitwirelesswifi or at transitwirelesswifi.com.  A panel of judges will choose a weekly winner from among the 10 selfies that accrue the most votes.

“We’re excited to bring an added element of entertainment and of course, connectivity, to New York City subway stations,” said Ericka Hatfield, Marketing & Communications Manager at Transit Wireless. “Our goal is to enhance the New York City mass transit experience through Wi-Fi and cellular connectivity that lets people engage via the Internet, even while underground.”

Qualified entries will be judged based on their creativity, ingenuity and composition. Weekly winners will win a $100.00 MetroCard and be entered to win the grand prize, an iPad mini, which will be awarded to one winner at the end of the contest period.

Transit Wireless, the industry leader in advanced technology solutions for wireless, Wi-Fi and fiber business solutions and sole provider of Wi-Fi in the New York City subway system, is running the Subway Selfie contest through Wednesday, March 25th.

Transit Wireless is hard at work building, financing and operating the Wi-Fi network in all 279 underground stations. Work is scheduled to be completed by 2017.
