Stop & Shop Donates $29,963 to Island Harvest Food Bank

Hauppauge, NY - March 1, 2017 - Representatives from Stop & Shop recently stopped by Island Harvest Food Bank’s Hauppauge Distribution Center to drop off a donation of $29,963.35 as part of the supermarket chain’s “Food for Friends” initiative, which benefits local hunger-relief organizations.

“Stop & Shop has established itself as a true champion of those facing hunger and food insecurity in the territories it serves,” said Randi Shubin Dresner, President & CEO, Island Harvest Food Bank. “We thank Stop & Shop for the longtime and generous support it has given throughout the year to our neighbors in need.”

Childhood hunger and food insecurity are among Stop & Shop’s charitable focuses. The company supports many of Island Harvest Food Bank’s programs, including its Summer Food Service Program, and the Turkey & Trimmings Collection Campaign. Stop & Shop’s innovative “Meat the Needs” initiative has provided more than 1.8 million pounds of meat and poultry to help people struggling with hunger, supplementing 1.5 million meals since its inception in 2008.
