Teen Fired Shots at Police During Freeport Foot Chase, Nassau Authorities Report

Freeport, NY - February 27, 2018 - The Homicide Squad reports the arrest of an individual on Sunday, February 25, 2018 at 11:10pm in Freeport.
 
According to Detectives, at 10:50pm Freeport Police Officers responded to the rear parking lot of 178 Pine Street for a call regarding youths in the area. As Officers responded they observed four youths including the defendant David Serrant, 19, of Flatbush, NY. The defendant walked away, jumped a fence and began to run.  
 
As Officers began to follow, the defendant turned and fired one round from a .40 caliber semi- automatic handgun at an Officer. The defendant then fired a second shot at two other Officers that were approaching from a different direction. Finally, the he raised his weapon and pointed it at a fourth Officer that approached from a third direction. At that time, the fourth Officer fired back at the defendant.  
 
The defendant continued to run but was apprehended in possession of the handgun by K-9 Officer Mathew Pinelli and his partner K-9 Seren at 209 Pine Street. No injuries were reported.  
 
Defendant David Serrant is charged with two counts of Murder 1st Degree (Attempt), Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd Degree and Menacing a Police Officer. He will be arraigned in First District Court 99 Main Street, Hempstead.
 
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
