Police Announce Arrest of Suspect in Multiple Nassau Burglaries Throughout 2017 and 2018

Nassau County, NY - February 27, 2018 - The Major Case Bureau reports the arrest of a Westbury man for Burglaries that occurred in 2017 and 2018 in Westbury, Carle Place, Garden City, Mineola, West Hempstead and Hempstead.
 
According to Detectives from the Burglary Pattern Squad and the Third Squad, defendant Michael Matthews, 58, of Westbury is responsible for the following nineteen (19) burglaries: 
 
  • March 15, 2017 – Pizza Cucina – 625 Old Country Road, Westbury
  • August 30, 2017 - Gloria’s Restaurant and Bakery, 219 Post Avenue, Westbury
  • September 10, 2017 – The Potato Field, 588 Old Country Road, Westbury
  • September 17, 2017 Kisoro Asian Fusion and Sushi, 227 Old Country Road, Carle Place
  • October 9, 2017 – The Butcher Place, 530 Westbury Avenue, Carle Place
  • October 29, 2017 – The Health Nut, 92 Old Country Road, Westbury
  • October 30, 2017 – 99 Cent Mall, 209 Voice Road, Carle Place
  • November 29, 2017 – Ace Handicraft, 314 Hempstead Turnpike, West Hempstead
  • December 10, 2017- Old Country Wine and Liquor, 27 Old Country Road, Carle Place
  • December 26, 2017 – Real Taste Bakery, 17 S. Franklin Street, Hempstead
  • January 21, 2018 – El Mofongo, 684 Fulton Street, Hempstead
  • January 22, 2018 – Soup Exchange- 945 Franklin Avenue, Garden City
  • January 25, 2018 – Salone Gino, 1595 Taylor Avenue, Westbury
  • January 29, 2018 – Genesis Soul Food, 143 N. Franklin Avenue, Hempstead
  • February 7, 2018 – Tres Reyes Deli, 755 Old Country Road, Westbury
  • February 9, 2018 – Scuba Network, 245 Old Country Road, Carle Place
  • February 15, 2018 – Bonaventure Tuxedo, 134 E. Jericho Turnpike, Mineola
  • February 15, 2018 – 2nd Street Gourmet Deli & Catering, 188 2nd Street, Mineola
  • February 21, 2018 – The Sandwich Shop, 1610 Old Country Road, Westbury
Defendant Matthews would enter the above businesses by breaking the glass doors and stealing an undisclosed amount of US currency.  After an investigation, the defendant was arrested at his home on Friday, February 23, 2018 at 4:30 pm.  
 
Defendant Matthews is being charged with six counts of Burglary 3rd Degree.  He will be arraigned on Saturday, February 24, 2018 at First District Court, 99 Main Street, Hempstead.
 
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
