Fiorello Laguardi (Hizzoner?) To appear at the Grand Opening Gala this Saturday, March 2

Written by Long Island News & PR  |  26. February 2013

It just so happens that Fiorello H. LaGuardia was indeed mayor when The Suffolk Theater first opened and it is a wonderful coincidence that Tony Lo Bianco will be roaming The Party of the Year as that beloved figure.

Lo Bianco has portrayed the larger-than-life 1934-1945 mayor of New York City Fiorello H. LaGuardia in a one-man show, Hizzoner!, written in 1984 by Paul Shyre. Lo Bianco continues his work on the life of LaGuardia in a revised revival set to debut in a run Off-Broadway.

Lo Bianco, is known for his tough guy, Italiante blue-collar roles in cult films  like The Honeymoon Killers, God Told Me To, and The French Connection. Lo Bianco was a Golden Gloves boxer and also founded the Triangle Theatre in 1963, serving as its artistic director.

The opening of the  historic landmark Suffolk Theater is sure to be The Party of the Year. On Saturday, March 2nd, the theater presents a “Back to the Thirties” cocktail party, featuring the music of Grammy winning Vince Giordanao and his Nighthawks Orchestra, and the food of famed chef, Tom Schaudel.
