SCPD: Owner of Oheka Castle Shot

Huntington, NY - February 24, 2014 - Suffolk County Police Second Squad detectives are investigating a shooting incident that injured the owner of Oheka Castle in Huntington this afternoon.
 
Second Precinct officers responded to Oheka Castle, located at 135 Westgate Drive, Huntington, after receiving a 911 call from the relative of the gunshot victim at approximately 12:30 p.m.  When officers arrived they determined that the property owner, Gary Melius, was in a parking area entering his vehicle when he was shot in the head.  The suspect fled the scene. Melius, 69, who lives on the property, was transported by a family member to a local hospital. Melius is alert and in stable condition.
 
Members of the Suffolk County Police Canine Unit, the Aviation Section and Second Precinct officers immediately saturated the surrounding areas and conducted a thorough search of the grounds.  The Nassau County Police Department and the New York State Police were notified.
 
The investigation is continuing and anyone with information about this shooting is asked to the Second Squad at 631-854-8252 or anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
