Written by WFSD News  |  24. February 2015

Lynbrook, NY - February 24th, 2015 - William Floyd High School students in Derek Robinson’s Spanish 4 classes with the assistance of Carol Janowicz (Spanish 5 AP), recently took a field trip to the “A la Carte” Cooking School in Lynbrook to enhance their knowledge of Spanish culture.

Students researched recipes and their origins, learned about the ingredients and prepared the dishes, which included paella, cheese quesadillas, tortilla de patata, homemade tortillas, arroz con leche, pico de gallo and guacamole en molcajete. At the end, the students all had an opportunity to sample their creations.

“The students agreed that this field trip was not only interesting, but enriched their knowledge of Hispanic culture,” said Mr. Robinson. “They also agreed that the hands-on nature and peer interaction helped them have fun and get to know their classmates better.”
