Woodbury, NY - February 23, 2017 - New York LGBT Network CEO David Kilmnick, will join Long Island transgender parents and students in a major press conference today after President Donald Trump recinds use of public bathrooms by transgenders. The press conference will take place on Thursday, February 23, 2017, at 11:30 a.m. at 20 Crossways Park North (Suite 110), Woodbury LI. They will announce how this impacts the civil rights of transgender students and what actions will be taken by the LGBTQ community, both locally and nationally. Assistance for students will be also discussed.

The Obama administration issued a guidance letter to schools across the nation, which sought to address the fair and consistent application of federal Title IX protections for transgender students.  The central premise of the letter, which was based on a substantial body of case law and best practices from across the nation, is that all students should be treated equally and consistent with their gender identity.

On the first day of President Trump’s second month in the White House, his spokesman confirmed efforts to repeal President Obama’s guidance letter, jeopardizing the enforcement of civil rights for all students.
